The painter is proud to be a seventh-generation Colquhoun/Calhoun descendant in the USA, a fifth- generation Floridian dating from Dougald Calhoun (b. 1816 in NC) moving from AL to FL, and a retired sixth- generation Methodist minister. He calls himself a “pastorist” having been a liturgical artist for nearly six decades. He and his wife Paula have Dove Cote Studios in their home in Waynesville, NC in the Smoky Mountains where he paints a variety of subjects using mainly acrylics, as well as other media. They have three grown sons and families. He gifted his painting of Rossdhu House to Sir Malcolm and Lady Colquhoun and the image for the use of Clan Colquhoun International.
